5 ESSENTIAL TIPS FOR BEGINNERS
August 2020
1. Remain calm and take a deep breath.
Often we are responsible for getting in the way of our own learning. By worrying too much about making mistakes, our instincts kick-in and make it difficult to focus on anything but our fear.
2. Place new vocabulary around your home or office
By placing new words or phrases around you, you can remember them more easily and get used to seeing them in your everyday life. After all, most people need to use a new word an average of 17 times (over a period of time) in order to retain it.
3. Immerse yourself as much as possible
The best way to learn a language is to become a part of it. By watching TV, listening to the radio and reading in English, you will better understand how native speakers talk.
4. Make English speaking friends
By making friends who speak the language you are trying to learn, you will be able to practice more often and in a more casual setting.
5. Have fun
People are often too worried about making mistakes to simply enjoy the process of learning a new language. By learning in a way you enjoy, you are more likely to learn fast and retain what you have learned since you will be associating the new language with a positive experience which in turn can allow you to form better neural pathway connections.
